Clarification of my last post

I thought I'd better clarify my last post, lest I leave anyone with the wrong impression! I am no angel! I do reasonably well on the food front the majority of the time, but I do allow myself to have treats, and I'm constantly going out to dinner and having good food.
Over the past 17 months, I've definitely had foie gras (it is one of my favorite things), ice cream, and even a few fries now and then. BUT, I have never had all of those splurge foods in ONE meal! That's what I was freaking out about last night. When I thought about what I'd had -- even though I only had a small amount of each thing -- I was like . . Wow. Why is it that I felt the need to do that??

My friend was really enthusiastic about dessert and I wouldn't have thought to get anything if she wasn't so in to it. But, just because she wanted dessert did not mean that I had to have any (or half of it vs. just a bite). No one was forcing me to have it.

For the last 24 days (since I hit 71.6 down on Feb. 1st), my scale has been bouncing around. Yesterday morning was the first time since February 1st that I saw the lowest number again, and I was really happy to see it. So, what do I do that night? Order something light and delicious so that I can creep a little closer toward my goal?? No. . I order three of the most fattening foods on the planet! OK, so the foie gras was a small appetizer and I shared the other two dishes. It wasn't that bad, and the scale is only up 1.6 pounds today -- not an unusual amount for a bounce.

It wasn't really the food thing that was so terrible -- but I think it's important for me to look at this and figure out why I ordered so outrageously last night, given that my goal is to get off these last 3.4 pounds (and maybe another 10 after that). It's fine and I'm not going to beat myself up over it. But I do want to think back on this the next time I'm thinking about ordering something fattening. I'm not saying I won't have it. . but I will at least try to make sure that whatever I have is more balanced.

When I was very close to my goal and I was tempted to stray, I made a promise to myself ... 4 weeks of behaving - 28 days - then I'd allow myself a little splurge. But when the 4 weeks had passed and I had 100% true to my promise the entire time, the scale was being so friendly to me that splurging was no longer important.

do you think it is bc somewhere in your mind you rationalized it by saying...oh I am only 3.4 pounds away...this isnt going to detour me THAT much?

That's what I seem to do!

No. . I was more like "F-it! I'm going to go crazy!!" and I wasn't thinking of the consequences.

Ive found it hard to stay on track when since im 17.2lbs away from my goal I know im soooo close but I still splurge every once in a while and i think thats why my scale has halted. I think Im going to do what Sally said and behave for 28 days and then have little splurge! and we will se how that turns out.

Regardless of why you did it, the important thing is not to beat yourself up about it and applaud the fact that you see it as something you need to keep in check.

We can't make perfect choices every day...skinny people don't either! Good for you for being aware of it...every day is another lesson. ;-)

Oh hon,
There seems to be a general concensus.. we hit a new low and then instead of being so good that we will continue going lower - we do a semi-sabotage thing. I've just done it myself. Is it the fact we feel a bit relaxed at the new number knowing we will hit it again soon, or do we just go ..ahh shrug out shoulders and allow ourselves some leeway? Whatever it is.. it's annoying lol. Don't stress ok. You do fantastic anyway.

I have no great advice because I'm where you are in Bouncington, but I had to comment to tell you that I LOVE this pic!!!

The most important thing is that you recognize your behavior is unusual and you are consciously making the decision to monitor it! We all deserve a little treat once in a while, so just take it as that, forget it and move on. That scale will start moving down again soon ! :)

I think it is great that you are thinking about the why??? But as you say it isn't that bad!!!

I loved the prior post -- and this one. It totally resonated with me because since the beginning of the year, I have been in a self sabotage mode and I've NOT stepped back to look at it -- until now. I agree with other posts - a small, or single, indescretion is ok and perfectly normal. If you did what I've been doing these last couple months, it's a no go! I've already started to get back on track and listen to my band again. I made an appointment with my doctor for an evaluation. And I'm hoping to get these 4 pounds off before I see him. This has kind of scared me - I don't want to back to my former life (for sure) but I've not quite figured out the "why" I've been behaving as I have. Thank God for boot camp or this would have been a total disaster! Again, Catherine, you've hit the nail on the head.

Oh, and by the way, my verification word is panica -- Panic! no!
