I hadn't realized that Google Alert would pick up my entries, since I specifically set up this blog so that it wouldn't be crawled by Google and other search engines. But, when I mentioned X's group, he got an alert about the post.
Anyway, it was interesting to find out that he'd been able to see my blog. It's funny, since obviously, I'm putting all of this very personal information out there on the Internet for people to read. But, this is the first time that someone I know found the blog independently, without knowing that it existed and without me knowing. In some ways, that makes me feel a bit . . well, naked! But that said, I appreciated it that X told me, and it was interesting to hear his reaction, which was very open and non-judgmental.
So. . . another twist. . ? It's a good thing that X is extremely cool and, while I don't know him that well, I do get the sense that he will be respectful of my privacy. (And X. . sorry. . I know you may read this, and hope that's not too weird. . .) It's such a small world that not only did I used to work with his brother. . but he's also going on a trip with C next month. . . Ack! :)

First, you looked awesome in those pics in a previous post! Next, the privacy thing. As private as some of us want to keep this whole experience and be able to pick and choose who we share the journey with, with the internet...nothing is private. The fact that you've been blogging so long and this is the first it's happened is pretty impressive. Once something's out on the net, it's no longer private. I'm glad X was so cool about it and that it's not making you hesitant to blog. I don't know what I'd do without my weekly dose of "Catherine's Life."
To blog or not to blog that is the question. When it comes to the internet and blogging, it is hard to be private. I had a video posted on this blog about my nephew a while back on a news piece about his cancer treatment. Well he happens to be a buyer for a local hospital and one of the sales reps he knows who was applying for a job with Allergan-Lap Band, happened to run across my blog and my nephew's news clip video as she was researching Lap Band info. She called him and said, I just ran across your video on a lap band blog. Talk about a small world. Nothing is private.
You know...I obviously am pretty public and open, but I do say things on my blog sometimes about people in my life.... be it a coworker (although this extremely rare)or my brother...and I wonder what will happen when they find out. if they ever do! That is really interesting though. I bet for a moment you were like "HUH?"
Oh WOW...I can feel your "pain" its like you are being opne but feeling in a secure lapband bubble of sorts and he's an "outsider" but I think it goes to show how your story can reach so many different people and caputre their attention wls or not!
Catherine - thanks for mentioning this post - I did miss it!!! That is an interesting way to be "outed"... I am pretty open too, but I do self-censor sometimes what I want to say about certain people in my life because I know that either they read this OR they could find it somehow... but good thing he is cool!
Yikes! I can totally see how this would leave you feeling a little exposed! In fact, it prompted me to email another blogger who had my full name in one of her posts, and I googled myself and found her blog, which led me to my blog, easy peasy. I know that the stuff we post here isn't exactly "private", but we do have our own little community of people who "get" us. Glad your friend is cool though.
Does this make you feel like you should tell "C" (about the surgery, not the blog) just in case it gets back to him through "X"'s brother? Keep us posted on how it unfolds. BTW, I found my current husbands "dating" pages through google when I first met him. Its amazing what you can find through google!
Yeah I do NOT like the idea of people being able to randomly look me up. That sucks!
