A DVF dress from the site
One of the main things I've been looking forward to about being thinner is being able to shop everywhere and wear cuter clothing. I'm just at the point where the higher end boutiques have a few things in my size . . but a lot of the stores in Soho seem to only stock up to a size 8 or a small 10. I'm not in those sizes yet, so it's still a little frustrating. I'm fine in a Gap 10, but a designer 10 is usually a whole different animal. . .
The other day, a friend of mine sent me a link to a relatively new site called Rent the Runway. This site rents out current designer dresses for between $50 and $200 per wear (including dry cleaning). I was all over it! So, I signed up and, when my membership was approved, I logged in. . . all ready to start thinking about fabulous outfits to wear to Christmas parties and on New Years. So. . . I sign in and see that the biggest size they have is a 10. A designer 10, so it's probably more like a small 10 or an 8. And, there are almost no dresses in that size. They pretty much only stock to an 8. WTF. That is so annoying.

Honestly, I'm thrilled to fit into a 10 right now, and am OK with still being in a 12 on some things. I'm definitely able to shop in a much broader range of stores now, and that is a huge NSV and something that really adds to my shopping fun. But, I still want to wear those designer gowns. I know that most have sizes for me if I were to buy them in a store. . . but how great would it be to wear a $1,000+ dress and only pay $200? Truth is, for most of those dresses, I'd only get a few wears out of them anyway, and with this, you can wear a different dress to every party if you want. Well, I guess it's something to (maybe) look forward to. Honestly, I'm not sure I'm built to be as small as these dresses are cut. But, they sure are pretty, and it's fun to think about it. . .

Ah, Catherine...I was going to be teasing and write something about, oh, what a terrible problem...but you know what? This does suck...I think one of thee reasons we are doing this is so weight is a non-issue in our lives. And if you want to wear these pretty dresses, then weight still is an issue...it's a nice idea, though, 'rent the runway'. Who knows where you will be in half a year? Maybe you will be able to get into these dresses - look at what you've done in a year!
I know . . right? I'm THRILLED to have this as a problem compared with where I was a year ago! But it's annoying as sh*t that I've put in all the effort needed to get this far and these people STILL don't have my size. Grrrr!!!
Aaaawww...I sympathize with you because while I'm nowhere close to being able to wear those dresses, I think it's harder if you're really CLOSE to being able to but just not quite there. I do think it's important to remember that designers make clothes for the models, not real people, and the models are a little too thin a lot of the times. :o) I think you'll be able to get into those dresses by next year no problem. You've already made amazing progress.
Oh I can SO relate to how you're feeling. I'm about to write a whole entry about it too!
BTW the dress came and it's gorgeous. Might fit a little funny in one way on me but my friend who sews thinks she can help it - the straps are just strangely long for me!
Drats sorry - I really shouldn't make comments when it's so late - I always manage to stuff them up lol.
I was going to say how thin is that girl modelling the dresses - trust me, you don't want to look that emaciated. It's more like - well, if they don't have a dress that fits me the way I am - which by the way is just a beautiful size - screw it! There must be other companies out there that don't cater for twigs.
I'm dying for that first dress! In general, I'm really into little girly dresses right now. I can of course relate to your frustration however. Once you hit a 12/14 you should be able to wear these things! I'm totally going to aspire to get a dress from there someday though...
What a shame. Those dresses would look so much better on a woman who's a true size 10. Honestly.

I absolutly Loveee all 3 of the dresses they are Beautiful! I would LOVE to be able to wear some of that I really REALLY like the 1st one.

Nordstroms have some great special occasions dresses on sale for cheap!
That does suck. Not fair at all! I'm pretty sure I may never fit into dresses like these - but I would look like an alien wearing something like this around here anyway! Only UGGS-compatible clothes in my neck of the woods ;)
I'm not one to shop at really high end stores, but I always thought people said that expensive clothes ran a bit bigger. I guess that's not true. Bummer, but you're so close to being able to go into those stores and fit all of the dresses. Probably 10 pounds away yeah?? I mean if you're a solid 10 at Gap, a small 10 is less than 10 pounds away. Keep up your hard work, you'll be there before you know it!!
Quick update. . . they now have up to size 12 on the site!! But everything is shorter than I like. Still, it's nice to know that I could rent a dress from there if I wanted to!
