After lunch, Tracy and I went dress shopping at Lord & Taylor (best dress selection in the city). I found two that I liked -- one from Elie Tahari, the other from Cynthia Steffe, but with yesterday's Karen Millen purchase, thought I should cool it! Tracy found a few really cute dresses, and wound up getting one of them for an upcoming event.
One of my favorite things about hitting the 70 pound mark is that I'm finally in a size 10 -- which means that -- for the first time in YEARS! -- I can shop basically anywhere. It's actually FUN again to try things on. I thought I had lost that enjoyment forever! I didn't realize that it was so tied to my weight. Well, it turns out that it was.
It is so great that I no longer have to kill time, feigning interest in shoes and accessories waiting for my friends while they try on cute clothing that I can not wear. That was a bit torturesome, and it just reinforced all of the negative feelings I had about my weight and how I'd let it get so out of control. Cut to the present, and I'm in there grabbing an armload of frocks to try on, and having fun!The clothing thing is something I'd been looking forward to since I first wrote out my List of Pros & Cons when I was deciding whether to get banded. It's funny though -- I only mentioned it by listing "better clothes" among the pros. I was thinking about having a broader fashion parameter and being able to wear different styles. But I don't think I fully thought out all of the petty humiliations that go hand in hand with shopping for bigger sizes when you don't feel good about your appearance. Now though, bit by bit, I'm noticing that those things no longer apply. It's a very freeing, wonderful feeling to be liberated from this. I definitely count this as a big NSV.

And you all look fantastic in the pic too!!!
It was great to meet you today, you are just as lovely in person as you are in blogland!
Congratulations on the size 10 - enjoy the shopping, you have impeccable taste in clothes. Have fun making the most of it!
You look so great! I totally hear you about the shopping. I don't even like shoes but what else can I look at in skinny girl stores?? I can't wait until I can shop anywhere! Congrats, you did it!
Look at you girls - beaming from ear to ear. You're so lucky you all live close enough to catch up. Sounds like a fun day (and having lost 70 pounds myself - and being a US size 10 too, I totally get your shopping heaven!!)
Aweoime...can you tell us who is in the photo with you. is that Yana in the blue and Kristen with the glasses. What a great NSV....congrats to you all
Sure! From left to right, it's Tracy, Jen, my friend who did not want to be identified on the blog b/c of privacy concerns, Yana, Kristen and me. :)

I know its exciting having bandster friends around we have quite a few around here too!!! anyhow you look fabulous! I cant wait to get to the 10's im stuck in 12s for now tho!
Hi! Wanted to let you know I gave you the sunshine blogger award.
Hey Catherine, can't remember if I've posted anything yet but I've been following your blog for a month or two.
I can totally relate to the "entertain your fat self while your friends shop" type thing, lol! It sucks!!! I especially remember one time having to do this in Myrtle Beach, at some outlet stores. :( I can't wait until I am in your shoes, being the person who gets to try on the cute clothes. I am totally going to rock the cute clothes when I am skinny(er) again.
Hope you don't mind but I linked to your blog from the new one I am starting.
Catherine - you are such an inspiration, and beautiful at any size (but esp. a 10!!). Can a Long Island girl join you NYC band ladies on a night out one day? Would love to meet 'some of our kind' ;)
Absolutely, Ruth! Send me an e-mail at chroniclesfrombandland@gmail.com and I'll let you know the next time we're meeting up. Also, keep an eye on Jen's blog (Life's Little Journey -- link on my blog) b/c she often posts when we're meeting up. You'd definitely be welcome to join! :)
