Having a ball. .

Last night, I went to the New York Auxiliary Ball at the River Club, which is a private men's club here in the city. One of my friends was on the planning committee for the event, so we decided to attend in support.

As you can see from the photos, I wore my RED (!) Karen Millen dress for the first time! I wore it with these round-toe heels in black satin that have a bit of a platform and stockings with a back seam (thank you Spanx, you for making these -- I love you!!). I really loved the outfit and felt great in it.
I just realized that I haven't been to a true black tie event since the Judges' Dinner in March 2009. I used to feel kind of stressed and nervous getting ready for these events, mainly because I didn't feel as good about my body as I would have liked. Even last year, when I had already lost 33 pounds, I felt better -- but still was a little stressed about the dress, how it would look, etc. But this time, I just felt really excited about getting dressed up and wearing my pretty new dress. It's such a simple, nice thing, and it felt so amazing to be able to really enjoy it.

At the event, they had all of these fun party favors . . feathery headbands (see below) and black top hats. I picked this one, which went with my dress. I really liked it -- was a lot of fun to wear!
This event was for a school, so the guests were primarily couples (read: zero single guys of interest), but that was just fine. Actually, I saw C on Friday night, and we had a really good talk, which was needed since I'd been annoyed with him recently. I have no idea what is going to happen on that front, but I like him. He is cute, funny, smart, interesting, silly, and the chemistry is off the charts. So, I'm going to try to just go with the flow while keeping myself open to meeting someone else unless this gets more serious.

OK, one last photo before I head off. . . here is one of me and Marjorie in the beautiful powder room. She was supposed to do a funny face too, darn it!! :) The dress she is wearing is the Dior gown that she got for a total steal when we were in Palm Springs last September. It really looked fantastic on her!

Love your dress...what a great red it is. You look fantastic. Glad you are going to keep your options open with meeting other guys. If this guy is as smart as he seems he will step up to the plate! You are a great catch and don't forget it!

You look great! I love that dress on you. I'm going to my first black tie gala on Tuesday night with my husband for his work and was so excited when the dress I bought in a 14/16 fit (down from a size 24!)! Looks like you had a great time!

Love looks great on you! I am not a color person but lately I have been finding and loving them! Good that the talk happened with C. Going with the flow seems smart and tey always say you meet someone when you are not looking! So staying open is key!

I know how great it must feel to share these pictures but it's even greater how awesome and motivated I feel just looking at how far you have come and what a difference the changes in your life have made. I am so inspired!!! You look just lovely, Catherine. How wonderful that you felt confident and self-assured walking into this wonderful event.
Many, many more to come, I am sure....perhaps with some eligible fellows in attendance!!!

I am just curious, as I just came across your blog, what was your before and after weight? Or size at least. The dress is gorgeous, and congratulations on your success.
