Based on the NYU index (and that's the one on my doctor's site), I need to lose about 9 pounds to get into the highest part of my ideal range. That actually sounds right to me. But, meanwhile, friends are telling me that I look great and shouldn't lose any more weight. Of course, some of these friends would freaking kill themselves if they had to buy a size 12 (even at Karen Millen), so we'll take that as a compliment and won't pay too much attention to it!
The thing is . . . I know that even the NYU's site's BMI calculator is wrong. My BMI can not be the same at my weight after 7 months of Boot Camp as it would be if I didn't have as much lean muscle mass. So, I view the calculator as an approximation. I have my next checkup coming up within the next month, and I'm going to ask Dr. Ren for more guidance on setting my goal weight. I want to be reasonable, and I don't want to overdo it.

In the words of the great French beauty and actress, Catherine Deneuve, "There comes a time in every woman's life when she has to choose between her face and her a$$." I'm not quite there yet, but I want to know when that moment comes!

What a luxury my band has given me that this is one of my (future) worries!! I feel very lucky that this is the issue that I am thinking over tonight! Thank you, band!

I think sometimes we strive to suit the ideal... I am always a better weight at about 5 kg above, less gaunt and I do not look so old (read haggard!!!) You look fantastic now but ultimatly you must be happy....GB xxx
I am struggling with the same thing I am 5'4 and my personal goal is 155, my nurtrionist at the obestity treatment center said 144
Next fill I will ask my DR.
You are amazing a role model to me :)

UGH I hate the BMI! My doc set a goal of 150 for me - which I agree with, maybe even a little more. This is technically just above "healthy" on most BMI calculators (I am 5'4"), but so what. Remember Dr. Oz says waist measurement is a better indicator of a healthy size.
At 194 I am in size 14s, and from experience I know I will be size 10 and some 8s in the 160s. As my DH says, I am "dense" LOL.
Anyway, you do look AMAZING right now, and all that matters is how you feel. It is just about your "time" to consider the age thing too - it is a fact that women over 40 look younger with a little extra weight. I have too many friends in their mid-forties who look WAY older because they are so skinny!
To have such a problem! I'm so plump I haven't seen a wrinkle yet. I hate to see what happens when I get my band and lose the "fill" on my face. You are amazing and I can't wait to entertain such thoughts.

Really, there are a lot of people who believe that BMI is bunk. I happen to be one of them (for a variety of reasons), which I should really blog about. Primarily, it frustrates me because the body mass index formula was developed almost two hundred years ago. I know that our scientific understanding of the human body has improved by leaps and bounds since then. Additionally, there are some arbitrary numbers just kind of thrown into the formula...
Okay, I went off on a tangent. I am 5'4" tall and have set my goal at 160 pounds. I've been obese my entire life and will have at least 10 pounds of lose skin--probably much more, which factored into my decision.
I think you look amazing, and I totally am started to get those friend's comments!
Love what Gen said about being dense, I must be too, because at 184 I'm smaller, size-wise than most peoples. I've recently re-set my goal to 165 from 170... I think the 160s seem healthy for my 5'8, we'll see.
