I DID IT!!!!!!!

Here I am at the 1 mile mark! Adam and Erica came out with a camera AND gold pom poms (love it!) to cheer me on! So nice!
I did it! I ran my first 5K! It felt SO GREAT to be able to do this! When I crossed the finish line, I had to fight the urge to cry out of happiness and being so grateful that I was able to do this. I can't believe how far I have come in improving my health and fitness in the past year.

Exactly a year ago (just over a month before the day I was banded), I had to walk this race because I was so heavy that I developed compartmental syndrome and was not able to run for more than 15 minutes without being in a great deal of pain. Once I hit the 45 pound down mark, I tried running again (as part of Boot Camp) and found out that I no longer had any problem at all.

This time last year, it would have been hard for me to imagine that I would weigh almost 60 pounds less and be able to run a 5K today. I feel so incredibly grateful.

Here is me zooming on by! The girl who is turned around with the pink jacket around her waist is my friend Erika (not the same person as Erica with a "c"), who ran the race with me today!

Oh Catherine, that is so wonderful. You must feel so darn proud of yourself. I think we "bandsters" should all get together and run a 5k- wouldn't that be something!?

We should start a Bandster 5k for Bandsters only. :)

Congrats! You look so skinny! What a huge accomplishment. When you first posted about the 5k, the running part didn't click. I just always think about walking them. My perspective has to change because WOW, you RAN the 5k! I'm not there yet, but you're a definite inspiration. And that's awesome of your friends to snap pics and bring pom poms!
